Maria Thomson, FSA, SVP Business Development: published her research findings on how the life insurance industry can vastly improve its performance in the mid-market in her book Insurance Coverage for All!…And How Insurers Can Afford to Provide It.  A key aspect of her findings is that the industry must reduce its new business acquisition costs.  By utilizing RAD (Rapid Assessment & Delivery) techniques, such as e-apps and e-underwriting, Maria argues that new business costs can be dramatically reduced while maintaining good underwriting standards. Maria founded and served as Managing Principal of the management consulting firm, Thomson Management Solutions and counted Allmerica, Prudential and The New England among her clients. She has been Chief Actuary for Monarch Life and a start-up mass marketing venture at Transamerica Assurance. She has worked with individual and voluntary life and health products distributed through direct response, worksite, bank and b/d channels.  Maria spearheaded the formation of the Society of Actuaries' Marketing and Distribution Section, is currently on the Section Council and has chaired the Project Oversight Group for a recent SOA study on Automated Underwriting.  She holds an MBA from the University of Texas, Austin.
